Attached to many genres or subgenres of pop music, are references to venues and places music is played and/or created: the disco, the beach, the club, the lounge, the car, the garage, the street corner, the elevator, and so forth. Additionally, while production of a musical genre may become dispersed and globalized, there remains a semiotic connection to the specific geographic location the music was developed, or popularized. Pop Song Covers features four artists who use and appropriate portions of pop music in their work, referencing or describing landscape by way of the music.
